Profile of family caregivers of sick and/or frail elderly

This study aimed to identify the profile of carers of the elderly patients and / or weakened in the municipality of Jequié / BA. This is an exploratory study of character-descriptive, quantitative approach, held in neighborhoods Inocoop I and II which are located in the municipality of Jequié-BA, and the composite sample by 58 carers of the elderly. The instrument for data collection was formed by issues related to identity (gender, marital status, age, religion, education, profession / occupation, children, housing, relationships with the elderly), in addition to issues related to his state of health under his view and health problems. Most of the caregivers were female, 89.66%, whichever the age group of 51 to 60 years with 22.41% of the sample. Of the caregivers, 55.17% were married, 39.66% were illiterate, 41.38% were daughters of elderly care, and 77.58% have reported health problems. Since 43.11% are considered in a state of health regularly. Therefore it is necessary that at the public policies of the elderly are incorporated policies geared to the caregiver as regards health, education, leisure and training of these individuals, thereby providing quality assistance to the elderly weakened.
