Prevalence of overweight and obesity in elderly attended in projects of UESB

Objective: To investigate the degree of overweight and obesity in o elderly attended the projects in UESB, Jequié-BA. Methodology: The sample was composed of 25 elderly people, with an average age of 68.96 (DP = 6) who are all female. For the analysis of body composition was used Index of Corporal Mass (IMC), the Waist-Hip Relationship (RCQ) and the measurement of three skin folds (Triciptal, suprailiac and abdominal). For statistical analysis it is used the statistical package SPSS 11.5. Results: The IMC classified 60% of the sample with overweight and obesity, the RCQ already classified 56% in the range of risk, and the percentage of skin folds at the junction of moderate, high and morbid were an average of 68%. Conclusion: There has been a prevalence of overweight and obesity and also showed high similarity with other national studies, it is recommended practice of physical activity and a healthy diet of conservation to control and prevent the body fat high.
