Medicinal plants used by diabetes mellitus type 2 carriers for likely glicemic control in the city of Jequié-BA

The aim of this study is to identify the types of medicinal plants, how they are used and the results obtained from their use to control the glicemic levels of Diabetes Mellitus type 2 carriers in the city of Jequié/BA. It’s a qualitative research, with a group of diabetics inserted in Health Center Saúde Sebasti o Azevedo (Program Hiperdia), in the Jequié city. The data collected through half-structured interview with 50 DM type 2 carriers. 40% of the carriers do the medical and phitotherapic treatment of the disease, showing stability on the control of the glicemic levels. That way it’s possible to orientate/suggest some alternative therapies using medicinal plants that are effective on the glicemic control. Emphasizing that medicinal plants cannot act as the only way of medication, but should act as a good coadjuvant on the treatment of DM.
