Abstract:

After more than two decades of market reform, Romania's economy is still in reconstruction process and, as a result, the possibilities of applying pro-birth policies are also changing. These repeated changes are precisely what can help the decrease of the sensibility of variables defining the natural movement of the population to the socio-economic context. From the development of average birthrates and the characteristics thereof, we can note that a favorable context (education level, occupation, birth and care facilities) speeds up the decision to have the desired number of family members. The economic context is what puts pressure on the birthrate and, therefore, on the size of the population.
