Enhanced Mobile IP Handover Using Link Layer InformationKeywords: Mobile IP Handover , Link Layer Information , Fast Handover , Handover Latency , Packet Loss Abstract: The main source of the problem in Mobile handover is the latency and packetloss introduced by the lengthy registration processes. The registrationmessages must traverse all the way to the home agent (HA) and back. Inaddition, the packets sent by the corresponding node (CNs) are lost until theyreceive the binding update (BU) indicating the new care-of-address (nCoA) ofthe mobile node (MN). To reduce the number of lost packets during this time, the MN can request the old access router (oAR) to forward all its incomingpackets to the new access router (nAR)Mobile IP handovers can be improved through link layer information to reducepacket loss during handovers. It avoids link disruption during Mobile IPhandovers and reduces packet loss. Therefore, link layer information allowsan MN to predict the loss of connectivity more quickly than the L3advertisement based algorithm. It is the best choice used to predict abreakdown wireless link before the link is broken. This facilitates the executionof the handover and eliminates the time to detect handover.
