COMPARATIVE STUDY FOR ATHEROGENIC INDEX OF PLASMA(AIP) IN PATIENTS WITH TYPE1 DIABETES MELLITUS,TYPE2 DIABETES MELLITUS,BETATHALASSEMIA,AND HYPOTHYROIDISM

This study will examine the predictive value to atherosclerosis in diabetes mellitus (Type1, and Type2), Beta-thalassemia major (BTM), and hypothyroidism by using the value of AIP, ratio TC/HDL-c and ratio of LDL-c/HDL-c to provide prediction to accelerated development of atherosclerosis in such patients.The present study was performed on patients of both sexes the age ranged between (12-55) years. Sixty seven patients, with different diseases attended different hospitals in Baghdad were included in this study.The patients were grouped as follows: Group I (G1) consist patients of T1 DM (n=15). Their age (12-15 year).Group II (G2) consist patients of BTM (n=18). Their age (12-16 year).Group III (G3) consist patients of T2 DM (n=18). Their age (18-48 year).Group IV (G4) consist patients of Hypothyroidism (n=16). Their age (18-54 year).Two control groups, healthy individuals were also enrolled in this study. (n=30). The first control their age (12-18 year) and the second control their age (20-55 year).A significant increase in plasma Triglyceride of Group 1 and Group 2 compared to control was noticed.A significant increase in plasma Triglyceride and Total cholesterol, also anon significant increases in Low density lipoprotein-cholesterol was found in Group 3 and roup 4 compared to their control.The highest value of AIP was found in group 3 followed by group 1 and group 2. Patients of group 4 were under lower risk than the rest.
