O Brasil é o sexto maior produtor de leite do mundo. Atualmente, grande parte desta produ o provémde sistemas de produ o que utilizam as pastagens como principal fonte de alimento para os animais. Porém estaspastagens na maioria dos casos s o utilizadas de forma extensiva, ou seja, grandes áreas, com baixa qualidade eprodutividade. Dentre os diversos sistemas de produ o de leite existentes dois deles merecem destaque, o sistemaintensivo a pasto e o silvipastoril. O primeiro por conseguir maximizar a produ o de leite em áreas relativamentepequenas e o segundo devido às crescentes press es ambientais, sendo oportunidade de se produzir em ambientemais sustentável e com maior conforto animal. Esta revis o foi realizada com objetivo de caracterizar e compararestes dois sistemas de produ o de leite.Brazil is the sixth largest milk producer in the world. Currently, much of this production comes fromproduction systems that utilize pasture as the main source of food for animals. However, these pastures in most casesare used extensively, in other words, large areas with low quality and productivity. Among the various systems ofmilk production exist two of them thatdeserve special mention, the intensive grazing system and silvopastoral. Thefirst by getting maximize milk production in relatively small areas and the second due to growing environmentalpressures, and the opportunity to produce more sustainable environment and greater animal comfort. The objective ofthis review was to characterize and compare these two systems of milk production.
