"La historiografía de la lingüística: apuntes y reflexiones" ["Linguistic Historiography: Notes and Reflections"]

This contribution offers a definition and overall organization of the field of linguistic historiography. The complexity of the field can be explained in terms of its century-long interdisciplinarity, as well as in the variety of traditions, approaches, “linguistic products,” and social and cultural contexts that mark the historical development of linguistics. The activity of the historian/historiographer of linguistics involves three phases: data collection or documentation, analysis and interpretation, and results. The parameters and problems that are relevant at each stage are examined here. As to the fields of metahistoriography and epihistoriography, the essential tasks are outlined as well. As a conclusion, emphasis is laid on the usefulness of teaching the history/historiography of linguistics.
