"Historiografía lingüística y análisis del discurso: las relaciones necesarias" ["Linguistic Historiography and Discourse Analysis: Necessary Relationships"]

This paper seeks to establish the basis of discourse analysis as the starting point for an analytic approach to the history of linguistic ideas. We are interested in showing that the history of linguistic ideas is a subject and a corpus that can be created, organized and represented from the three perspectives that are central to discourse analysis: grammatical, discursive, and critical. The first one describes grammatical resources; the second, their combination as discourse strategies; and the third leads to critical interpretations of the strategic use of resources. Three units are combined to perform this kind of analysis: text (grammatical unit), discourse (strategic unit), and series (critical unit). We would like to explore how series borders provide for critical interpretations based on the strategic devices that are made available through grammatical resources.We will show how our proposal works in a set within a major series known as “Instituto de Filología Hispánica Discourse (1923-1990),” analyzing the 1923 opening speeches by Ricardo Rojas and Américo Castro.
