Integración del masaje terapéutico con el tratamiento convencional en pacientes diagnosticadas de fibromialgia Integration of the therapeutic massage with the conventional treatment in patients diagnosed of fibromyalgia

Se realizó un estudio experimental en el Centro Provincial para el Desarrollo de la Medicina Tradicional y Natural, Matanzas, en el período comprendido de enero a diciembre de 2010, con el objetivo de evaluar la integración del masaje terapéutico con el tratamiento convencional en pacientes diagnosticadas con fibromialgia primaria. Para el estudio se formaron dos grupos, cada uno de 30 pacientes del sexo femenino, seleccionadas al azar. Al grupo experimental se les aplicó, además del tratamiento habitual, 10 sesiones de masaje terapéutico, tres veces por semanas en días alternos, y al grupo control se les mantuvo el tratamiento farmacológico convencional. Se demostró la efectividad del masaje y la ventaja de no tener que prolongar el uso de medicamentos en períodos de crisis en esta patología crónica, así como enfrentar los efectos adversos e indeseables que su consumo trae aparejado. We carried out an experimental study at the Provincial Centre for the Development of the Natural and Traditional Medicine, Matanzas, in the period from January to December 2010, with the objective of assessing the integration of the therapeutic massage with the conventional treatment in patients diagnosed with primary fibromyalgia. For the study we formed two groups, randomly selected, of 30 female patients each one. The experimental group received, besides the common treatment, 10 sessions of therapeutic massage, three times a week, every other day, and the conventional group was maintained under the conventional treatment. It was demonstrated the effectiveness of the massage and the advantage of the no longer use of drugs during the crisis periods of this chronic disease, and also how to affront the adverse and undesirable affects of the drugs intake.
