Modeling of Gain in EDFA and it's Behavior in C and L BandKeywords: EDFA , Gain , Noise Figure , Pump Power. Abstract: We present a rate equation approach based on the propagation equations in single-mode Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFAs). We derived a closed-form analytical expression that describes the gain of EDFA in terms of input powers and signal wavelengths. A numerical evaluation of the equation is performed for a 980 nm pumped amplifier fiber. We proposed EDFA is suitable to operate at the conventional (C) band than the long (L) band. EDFA by itself has a larger noise figure than C-band EDFA.
