Mephedrone (4-MMC) is the most popular of thecathinone derivatives used as recreational drugs(colloquially called “legal highs”). It elicits stimulantand emphatogenic effects similar to amphetamines,cocaine and ecstasy. This review surveys the current stateof knowledge regarding the pharmacological propertiesof mephedrone; special emphasis is given to its potencyas psychoactive and symphatomimetic drug. It alsoaddresses the negative consequences of using mep -hedrone products.
