The monarchy, a journalistic taboo in Spain. The royal crisis and the circumstantial crisis

Abstract:

When the media broke the so-called “pact of silence” which protected the Spanish monarchy since it was re-established in 1975, the effects on the public opinion have been devastating for an institution that is suffering a crisis that does not seem to end, according to the harsh evidence provided by the surveys. In addition to the scandals surrounding the King and his family, there is a deeper reason why the Spanish people, especially young Spaniards, are walking further and further away from the Crown: 7 of 10 Spaniards under 40 years of age do not conceive the survival of an institution that they do not understand. The institutional public relations campaigns are not mitigating what already seems to be an irreversible effect.
