Microstrip Antenna with Centrally Loaded Inductive Discontinuity for Dual Band Operation

A conventional microstrip antenna on groundedPTFEsubstrate with centrally loaded inductivediscontinuity is proposed for dual band operation.The discontinuity has been produced by two thinmetallic plates centrally beneath the rectangularpatch to form an inductive window.The proposedantenna has beenstudied methodically and theresults are verified with commercially availablesoftware package (High Frequency StructureSimulator, V. 10). The specialty of the proposedantenna is to excite a new resonant mode with goodimpedance bandwidth while the usualdominantTM10mode is kept unaltered. Moreover, the salientfeature of the new antenna is that it produces theradiation pattern exactly similar to dominant TM10mode at its new resonant mode.
