Abstract:

Rural women in Assam play a very significant role in agriculture and allied operations. They are actively participating in all range of agricultural activities including pre-harvesting, and post-harvesting. They also perform other allied activities like animal husbandry, live stock management etc. The rural women, besides looking after the family and performing all sorts of household activities, very actively remain busy from dawn to dusk in such agricultural and allied operation which are supplementing the family income to look after the family smoothly. But despite such a huge contribution, her role has yet not been recognized. A few studies have been made on this regard in the state basically in the district of Golaghat. Keeping in view these facts the present study had been designed to explore the extent of their participation in such activities. For the present study a total of 416 rural women were selected from 150 households through multistage random sampling technique. A well designed and pre-tested interview schedule was prepared to collect necessary information from the respondents. Appropriate statistical tool were used to analyze the data and findings are shown with the help of table. The factors affecting women’s participation in such operation are also identified in due course of study. Finally, the paper recommends a fair treatment to the rural women and suggest policy implication for their upliftment.
