A RESEARCH ON THE NATIVE AND FOREIGN LANGUAGE READING HABITS OF THE FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHER CANDIDATES (CASE OF ULUDAG UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF EDUCATION)Keywords: teacher candidate , reading habits , native language , foreign language Abstract: The present study is an investigation of the reading habits of the fourth/final year students at the Faculty of Education, Uludag University. The study employs the method of scanning through utilizing a questionnaire based on the native and foreign language reading habits of a total of 228 teacher candidates enrolled in either one of the English, French, and German Foreign Language Teaching Department. The questionnaire administered, originally designed by Shen (2006), “the student weekly reading habit questionnaire,” was slightly adapted and translated by the researchers from English to Turkish. Findings of the research display that while the type of reading source shows distinctive results, the teacher candidates based on their foreign language divisions also vary in their habits of reading.
