Abstract:

In this work, it discusses the importance of gender equal perspective in the prevention and mitigation of natural disasters. We asked about the perceptions and reactions differential by gender about natural disasters and the effects of environmental changes in the territory of members of local organizations in Cuetzalan, Puebla. In particular nahuatl women organized in the Masehualsiuamej Mosenyolchiauanij, who developed remedial action from the effects of natural disaster in 1999. We asked about the perception of people about their production practices, natural disaster and involvement strategies followed by local social organizations to external projects. The methodology used in-depth interviews were conducted, participant observation and documental review. It also identified recent local actions denoting the generation of a model of social participation of local co-management, where members of civil society organizations, local authorities and indigenous social organizations seeking to implement an ecological management of their territory.
