Disease susceptibility and UV absorbing compounds of chickpea nodulation variantsKeywords: Cicer arietinum , nodulation , wilt and blight susceptibility , UV absorbing compounds , N2-fixation , Rhizobium Abstract: Susceptibility of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) nodulation variants to Fusarium wilt and Ascochyta blight was observed under the disease sick nurseries. Nodulation . variant of cv ICC 5003 were slightly more susceptibile to Fusarium wilt than cv ICC 4948, but disease susceptibility to Ascochyta blight was highest up to 9 ranking in both the cultivars. Quantity of UV absorbing compounds in all the nodulation variants was less in normal field plants as compared to those grown in wilt sick nursery or blight nursery. Contents of 3-5 different UV absorbing compounds were higher in LN selections as compared to HN selections of both the cvs ICC 4948 and ICC 5003. Further the 2nd UV absorbing compounds in cv ICC 4948 with absorption maxima at 228nm was induced when plants
