Innovation in Public Health Teaching: The Maastricht Experience

Maastricht University developed a new Bachelor programme in European Public Health in order to meet the challenges apparent in both the domain of public health as well as in the European higher education area. Begun in 2006, the programme attracts students and staff from across Europe and the first cohorts of students have graduated. After graduation, most students opt to do a consecutive master pro-gramme. This novel educational programme is outlined in detail by describing the mission, structure, content, dimension, and coherence, and concludes by focussing on the didactical principles associated with the programme: the Active and Self-Directed Learning (ASDL) methodology.
