Registro y Control de los Medicamentos en Venezuela*.: Una visión histórica

El desarrollo del medicamento moderno y su regulación por parte de los Estados, debe analizarse en el marco de los cambios políticos, sociales, económicos, técnicos y científicos que se iniciaron en el siglo XVII y se desarrollaron entre los siglos XVIII y XX. En Venezuela, el control oficial de medicamentos se inicia a mediados del siglo XIX, pero se ha considerado que su fecha formal de nacimiento fue octubre de 1883, con la fundación del “Consejo de Médicos” de Caracas. Nosotros hemos dividido esa larga historia venezolana en: I. Fundación del Registro y Control de los Medicamentos (siglo XIX) II. Bases Sanitarias del Registro y Control de los Medicamentos en el siglo XX (1905-1935). III: Período moderno (1936-1992). IV. Período contemporáneo (1993-2004). En el presente trabajo se analizan los hechos históricos más resaltantes que corresponden a cada una de esas etapas y, así mismo, se hace una breve aproximación al futuro. The development of modern drugs and its regulatory control should be analized in the framewok of political, social, economic, technical and scientific changes born during the 17th Century and growing faster between 18th and 20th Centuries. In Venezuela, regulatory control begun in the middle of the 19th Century, but its formal date of foundation was octubre 1883 when the “Consejo de Médicos” (Council of Physicians) of Caracas was officialy established. We have divided that long Venezuelan drug history in: I. Foundation of Drug Regulation (19th Century) II. Sanitary Bases of 20th Century Drug Regulation (1905- 1935) III. Modern Period (1936-1992) IV. Contemporary Period (1993-2004) Several historicals facts and success are analyzed in this paper and, likewise, we make a short approach to the future.
