Knowledge production and management at the Universidad de los Andes, Venezuela

The aim of the research was to develop principles which support knowledge production and management based on understanding speculative situations which occur within the context of the Universidad de los Andes, in Venezuela. The procedure combined theoretical considerations and empirical investigation, from a qualitative perspective, with an interpretational-phenomenological focus, using elements of the Grounded Theory. The study was based on six main aspects: 1) the link of basic and applied research; 2) policies of directional research in knowledge production; 3) planning, organisation and evaluation of research support knowledge production; 4) financial and technological resources and knowledge production; 5) publishing and reporting, fundamental for the socialization of knowledge; 6) management of knowledge, an integrating element in the process of knowledge production.
