The remaining feuilletonistic vestiges purging process among the literary work of Aluísio AzevedoKeywords: Naturalism , Aluísio Azevedo , Fiction prose , Feuilleton Abstract: This article’s goal is to notice the feuilletonistic elements present in the novel O Mulato (1881), written by Aluísio Azevedo. Noticing these elements requires a more detailed analysis over Uma Lágrima de Mulher (1989), the fisrt novel written by the same author, which will serve as a paradigm of feuilleton typical elements among the Brazilian writer’s literary work. The conceptions evidenced in this first novel would have left feuilletonistic vestiges in the following pieces of work written by Aluísio Azevedo, even after the author’s effort on purging these vestiges by rewriting his novels and/or affiliating his novels to the aesthetic conception of Naturalism. If in his masterpiece O Corti o (1890) Aluísio Azevedo seems to have achieved the goal of purging the feuilletonistic elements, the same doesn’t seem to have happened in O Mulato, even after it had been rewritten by the author, in 1889. Therefore, the effort of the present article is trying to comprehend one of the steps in which Aluísio Azevedo’s literary project has been through, drawing heavily on the analysis of these two last novels.
