The creation of the fantastic, the uncanny and the marvelous in three North American short-stories

The purpose of this article is to analyze three short-stories written by three North American authors from the 19th and 20th century and to discuss the creation of the fantastic, uncanny and marvelous in these stories. As a reaction against rationalism, the fantastic literature has as the main theme the supernatural, although the supernatural can be accepted, denied or ambiguous, according to some theoretical categories. Our article intends to discuss these three theoretical positions based to three North American short-stories.
