Food as an Etiologic Factor in Neurologic Diseases

Abstract:

Food as a culprit in devolvement of neurologic diseases is not a novel concept, as there is a history of specific neurologic diseases that are caused by defi ciencies in nutrition, namely lack of certain foods in human diet, like vitamins. There are also diseases caused by excess of some nutrients, and even vitamins. This review, however, is not about these well known conditions. It is about potential indirect effect of what is considered a “healthy” balanced diet in development of neurologic diseases. We discuss what is known about gluten sensitivity and neurologic disorders, and we extrapolate that there might be a much wider array of intolerances-sensibilities which don’t have yet an objective marker. We also expanded on a hypothesis that maybe other neurologic disorder with immune mechanism like MS might be a target of immunological overload of other antigens apart from gluten.
