Abstract: The solution of the internal problem of designing specialized container ships capable of operating in the Russian ports is offered. On the basis of the data on the specialized vessels calling at the port of St. Petersburg, typical di-mensions of vessels are identified. A phased designing scheme that consists of 11 items: the designing task; the principal dimensions; mass; layout; clarification of the body mass; body shape; statics; capacity; strength; wind resistance; econ-omy is given. A new method for calculating the ship's power plant to operate the specified number of refrigerated containers is presented.
