Due to changes caused by the new information and communications technologies in present society, teachers are facing another challenge: to understand how these changes affect education and modify their role in the classroom. This article aims to show changes in society as a result of the new technologies and how they modify the role of schools and teachers, emphasizing that this challenge requires teachers to admit the existence of a new society built after the rise of new technologies. Diante das mudan as provocadas pelas novas tecnologias da informa o e da comunica o, na sociedade atual, os professores encontram-se frente a mais um desafio: entender como estas mudan as afetam a escola e modificam seu papel na sala de aula. Este artigo pretende apontar as mudan as ocorridas na sociedade em decorrência das novas tecnologias e como elas modificam a fun o da escola e do professor na sociedade, sempre ressaltando que esse desafio requer primeiramente dos docentes admitir a existência da nova sociedade construída após a chegada das inova es tecnológicas.
