On the number of digit changes in base-$b$ expansions of algebraic numbers

Bugeaud [6] introduced the number of digit changes to measure thecomplexity of the base-$b$ expansions of algebraic irrational numbers.We give lower bounds of the number of digit changes which are generalizations ofresults in [13]. We also study the number of occurrences of words in thebinary expansions of algebraic irrational numbers.
