BODY COMPOSITION AND NUTRITIONAL STATUS OF ADOLESCENTS OFPRIVATE AND PUBLIC SCHOOLS OF RIO DE JANEIROKeywords: obesity , adolescents , body fat Abstract: The adolescents obesity is of public health problem and its earlyinstallation compromises the health in all phases of the individual’s growth and development. When the obesity is not combated during the infancy, it remains in the adult phase with all morbidity that is associated to it. The diagnosis and the combat inthe adolescents obesity are very important, as well as the preventive interventions. With the intention to contribute for the understanding and quantification of this problem, the present analysis investigated the index of corporal adiposity, the nutritional and alimentary consumption state of adolescents with different economic levels (public school [EPU]=low economic level; and particular school [EPA]=height economic level), in Rio de Janeiro. A total of 106 adolescents, aged between 10 and 15 years (64boys and 42 girls) participated of the study. Although physical differences are clear between the two groups of students, it was verified by anthropometric method, a trend to overweight and obesity, as well as a not favorable the nutritional condition of theparticular school` students. In the analyzed group, the biggest prevalence of food consumption was evident of high caloric and without nutritional value, associate by low ingestion of glucose, lipid and the excess of protein ingestion. It was verified a notsatisfactory ingestion of iron and calcium. This standard of alimentary behavior contributes for a risk situation for this population.
