VíAS DE AJUSTE DEL MERCADO LABORAL DE MéXICO EN EL CONTEXTO DE LA CRISIS ECONóMICA 2008-2010

The paper’s aim is to show the response of the Mexican labour market to the economic crisis of 2008, which caused a significant fall of the production levels. The drop of the manufacturing exports to the United States brought down the production and industrial employment in Mexico, which provoked a general fall of the economic activity. Under these circumstances, the Mexican labour market adjusted through a raise in the open unemployment, an increase in informal employment, the stall of the economic active population, and in some way, by salary fall. In the present circumstances, there has been no labour adjustment through labour migration to the United States. The countercyclical policies have been very limited due to the priorities of the government, which are the external balance-seeking, the accumulation of foreign reserves and the public budget balance.
