Conducts of the nursing professional in an intensive care unit during the transfusion processKeywords: transfusion of blood products , nursing care , ICU Abstract: Objective: to characterize the nursing team that performs the procedures transfusion in the ICU of a university hospital. Methods: this is about a descriptive study, from prospective data and quantitative approach, performed in the ICU at University Hospital in Natal city/RN. Population was composed by the nursing staff. Data collection was performed at two months after this study has been approved by the Committee of Ethics in Research of Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (protocol number 175/08). Data were organized in Excel and analyzed in SPSS 15.0. Results: of the 27 surveyed, 59.3% and 40.7% were Fellows officials. Predominated: age between 21 and 32 years (63.0%), female (85.2%) and average full (74.1%). Average observed in the ducts in the transfusion process were inadequate, showing significant difference (ρ = 0.010). In step pre-transfusion, there was inadequacy in the sample (91.7%), prescription (84.0%), form (66.7%) and SSVV (62.0%). In step transfusion was related to inadequate medication (46.0%), observation (30.0%) and equipment (8.0%). In step post-transfusion, there was inadequacy in the nursing notes (88.0%), label (74.0%) and SSVV (62.0%). Conclusion: we found that this is a young team, a majority of stock, without proper training and a fragmented transmission process and without systematization.
