Paraplegia due to Spinal Extradural Hydatid Disease and Syringomyelia after Surgical Intervention: A Case ReportKeywords: Paraplegia , hydatid cyst , extradural , spinal cord , syringomyelia Abstract: Primary spinal hydatid cysts are extremely rare and account for about0.5-1% of all cases of hydatid disease. Syringomyelia is a cystic cavitation of the spinal cord containing fluid that is identical or similar to the cerebrospinal (CSF) and extracellular (ECF) fluids. Here, we report the first case in the literature of a patient with paraplegia due to primary extradural hydatid cyst who developed a syrinx after surgery. Turk J Phys Med Rehab 2011;57:182-5.
