Muhammed , k Sümman , Alvarl Muhammed Lutfi Efendi Abstract: The word “darling” in Divan and Folk Literature is depicted in a very rich world of meanings. The expression “dilber” which the poets frequently used for “darling” especially in Divan Literature, as we know, means “a beautiful lady”. It has been determined that this word was used by especially some poets and Sufis from Erzurum and its neighborhood for God, Prophet Muhammad, Quran, and some Islamic scholars. In this way, we see that “dilber” to be found in a poem does not necessarily mean a lady to be loved. Moreover, even God who has no sex can be seen to be depicted as “dilber” by some poets.
