COLORFUL VERSES IN CAH T KüLEB ’S POEMS AND COLORS OF TURKISH CAH T KüLEB ’N N RLER NDE RENKL MISRALAR VE TüRK EN N RENKLER

The aim of this study is to evaluate the poems of Cahit Külebi (1917- 1997), both from the perspective of words that connotes colours and light- shadow relations. Although the colours and the words that connotes colours in addition to light- shadow element in the poems of the poet are defined, as these elements are too broad to be covered just by one article, this article only focuses on the important points related with the general appearance of the colours in the books and the study is limited to one of his books, called Adam n Biri, that contains fourty (40) poems.The words that are commonly preferred by a poet in his poems includes important clues about his psychology, his own self and his perception of the world and life. The colours along with the light and shadow elements among the words that are most frequently used by the poet and the way how the poet uses them constructs a significant sub-category. The main goal of this study is to reach the poetical function of each colour in his poems.The colours in the poems, in Külebi’s Adam n Biri, are meaningful from the perspective of “man and his emotions”, “nature”, “place”, “concept”, “colurlessness” and “time”.The most frequently used colours, in order of their frequency, used by Külebi are, “yellow”, “white” and “blue” colours. “Black”, “green” and “brown” are also the other commonly used colours that follow the ones mentioned above. The colour that is rarely used by the poet is “tobacco colour” and the ones that are never used are “light purple”, “purple” and “gray”. While light, joy and love invite the colours “yellow”, “white” and “blue”, darkness, melancholy and separation are carried to the lines of the poems by the sensual heaviness of the colour “black”.
