Deep Hypothermic Circulatory Arrest: Current Concepts

The use of hypothermia for therapeutic purposes is an established technique in children with complex congenital cardiac lesions and in adults for aortic arch reconstruction. Deep hypothermia decreases brain metabolism and oxygen requirement, whereas circulatory arrest provide bloodless surgical field.
