Acute Kidney Injury in the Elderly: A reviewKeywords: Acute Kidney Injury , Elderly Abstract: The world?s population is aging with proportionately larger increase at the upper extremes of age. Elderly patients not only exhibit age related renal changes and dysfunction, they also suffer from multiple comorbidities. Age related morphological changes in the kidney, functional alterations and accompanying comorbidities make elderly more vulnerable to AKI. Early diagnosis of AKI in these patients is vital as is its prevention. Awareness of the possibility of development of AKI, identifying patients at risk and its prompt recognition are keys to anaesthesia and critical care management of elderly patients.
