Successful Renal Transplantation in a Patient with HBS Antigen Positivity Caused By Hepatitis B Vaccination

Hepatitis B infection is one of the causes of morbidity and mortality in long-term survivors of renal transplantation. Hepatitis B vaccination is recommended for HbsAg and antiHbs antibody negative end stage renal disease patients before transplantation. Serologies to detect hepatitis B infection are included in the routine assessment of renal transplant candidates. However false positive assays for HbsAg can be recognized after hepatitis B vaccination. Hemodialysis patients have been found to be at higher risk for this complication. We present the rst case in the literature of renal transplantation during false positive Hbs antigenemia after hepatitis B vaccination.
