Abstract:

In addition to being the third most common cause of death among adults, cerebrovascular diseases are the most common cause of disability. Visual field (VF) defects are the most important neurologic sequellae of occipital lobe infarcts. Stroke is the most common cause of homonymous hemianopia and approximately 10% patients with stroke are found to have a homonymous hemianopia. Interestingly, a large number of these patients may not be aware of their VF defects and most of them continue to operate motor vehicles. There are only sporadic case reports of temporal hemianopia in published data. We report two male patients, aged 47 and 65, with isolated temporal hemianopia resulting from occipital lobe infarcts.
