The Evaluation of 19 Patients Who Were Admitted For the Tick Bite

Abstract:

The tick bite can lead to Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever disease. In our region admitted patient number has increased and the tick bite has became important problem in recent years. In this study the files of 19 patients who admitted to our clinic for the tick bite between March 2006-April 2007 were examined. Thirteen of patients were female (68%), 6 male (32%) and age ratio of patients were 5.7±3.8 years. Most of patients were resided in rural region and bitten from their leg or trunk. In 16 patients ticks were removed at hospital. On physical examination no pathology was found except fever in five patients. Laboratory findings (complete blood count, biochemical, tests of coagulation) were within normal limits. In the follow up of the five patients, their fever was decreased. In two patients upper tract respiratory infection were detected, also. The blood samples of patients which were sent to Country Health Office were found negative for virus. In the follow-up period, laboratory outcomes of the patients who were hospitalized for 48-72 hours were normal and all patients were discharged with no complication.
