The Contradiction Between Librarian's Social Responsibility and The Principle of Impartiality Tarafs zl k lkesinin Kütüphanecilerin Toplumsal Sorumluluklar yla eli kisi

In this article, the principle of impartiality, a general approach in librarianship profession, is discussed in a critical perspective. It is argued that in today's Turkey and specifically in public libraries, the idea of neutrality may create barriers against the libraries' responsibility for the enlightment, progress and freedom of the society, and thus librarians should not stand for "impartiality" but the opposite. It is stated that this "non impartiality" approach is not possible for Turkey yet; however, with the change in social relations, the evolution of Turkey towards a modern, democratic and populist nature would set the stage for this approach. Makalede, kütüphanecilik mesle inde genel bir yakla m olan “tarafs zl k” ilkesi üzerinde, ele tirel bir bak a s yla durulmu tur. zellikle günümüz Türkiye'sinde ve zelde halk kütüphanelerinde tarafs zl k fikrinin; kütüphanelerin toplumun ayd nlanmas nda, ilerlemesinde ve zgürle mesinde üstlendi i sorumluluklar yerine getirebilmesinde engeller yaratabilece i, dolay s yla kütüphanecilerin “tarafs zl ” de il, tersi bir yakla m savunmalar gerekti i iddia edilmektedir. “Tarafs z olmamak” eklinde ifade edilebilecek bu yakla m n her ne kadar Türkiye ko ullar nda henüz mümkün olamayaca na de inilse de, toplumsal ili kilerin de i mesiyle Türkiye'nin modern, demokratik ve halk bir yap ya evrilmesinin, bu yakla m n zeminini gü lendirebilece i belirtilmektedir.
