This article provides a synthesis of a doctoral course on Research Methodology. It begins with a description of the on-going debate between qualitative and quantitative research and their principles. It then stresses the importance of rigor and legitimacy in any research. The body of the article provides an overview of qualitative research with its fundamentals, designs, and techniques, followed by an overview of quantitative research with its fundamentals, designs, and techniques. The article concludes with a commentary on the complementarity between qualitative and quantitative research. Este artículo provee una síntesis de un curso doctoral sobre Metodología de Investigación.Inicia con una descripción del continuo debate entre la investigación cualitativa ycuantitativa y sus principios. Luego, enfatiza la importancia del rigor y la legitimidad entoda investigación.
