LOS FRUSTRADOS TUNELES DE PARANA: IDENTIDAD, MEMORIA Y ARQUEOLOGíA VERTICAL

In the city of Paraná, Argentina, just like in many other places, there areunderground constructions in the form of extended underground galleries, amongothers, which have been interpreted as mysterious tunnels opened in Jesuit times.This study is an approach to the conceptual framework and the methodology of studyused, and includes two case-analyses, one of which proved to be the complex drainagesystem of a hill, and the other one the basement of a possible brewery, both constructedin the second half of the XIX century. It represents an example of contract archaeologywith a town council, and explains the issues that derive from this kind of associationbetween science, politics and dissemination, how the media behave, and the nonacademic use of the results of a scientific investigation.
