Stereotypes are as old as human culture itself. They reflectideas that groups of people hold about others who are different from them. Astereotype can be embedded in single word or phrase, an image, or acombination of words and images. The image evoked is easily recognizedand understood by others who share the same views.Stereotypes can be either positive or negative. This paper recalls thecognition process in creating stereotypes and their importance when literaryview is applied.
