Se realizó una revisión de los fundamentos teóricos de la hidratación en el paciente lesionado por quemaduras extensas. Se exponen y analizan los antecedentes históricos en su desarrollo. Esta revisión pretende abordar el trabajo de un gran número de autores que han creado, durante un tiempo, un sinnúmero de fórmulas de hidratación, con el objetivo de agruparlas y brindar así información actualizada y resumida de esta problemática, que constituye uno de los pilares fundamentales en el tratamiento del paciente quemado mayor durante las primeras horas de su evolución, y que sirva de guía para aquellos profesionales de la salud que de una forma u otra, se relacionan con el manejo de esta afección. A review of the theoretical foundations of hydration in the patient injured by extense burns is made. The historical antecedents in its development are exposed and analyzed. This review is aimed at approaching the work of several authors that have created, for some time, a great number of hydration formulas in order to group them and to give updated and summarized information on this problem, that is one of the milestones in the treatment of the adult burn patient during the first hours of his evolution. This review may serve as a guide for those health professionals that in one way or another are related to the management of this affection.
