Abstract:

: This study examines the religious architectural monuments, the mosques of Kalecik, a small town located in the northeast of Ankara. The article presents the mosques with detailed drawings and photographs and analyzes their significance in Anatolian Turkish architecture. Especially the mosques built in the Ottoman period with different types of architectural styles turned this town into a typical Turkish city. All of the surviving mosques were built between 15th and 20th centuries and they belong to the Ottoman period. The harim (inner) of the mosques has a square or a rectangular shape that close to square. The roof is usually covered with a wooden ceiling from inside, and covered with roof tiles from outside. There are three types of ornaments used in Kalecik mosques: stucco, stone and wood. The architectural and decorative features of the works reflect the characteristics of the period.
