This study examines the Istanbul custom registers of 1606/1607 and presents the scope of Black Sea slave trade and its features in the Ottoman Empire. The classification of slaves according to their ages, the detailed description of various types of slave trade taxes in the laws and the large sum of tax revenue gained from the slave trade indicates that the high volume of Black Sea slave trade.
