Türk Milliyet ili i Dü üncesini Tan mlama ve Temellendirme al malar na Bir rnek: Ergenekon Dergisi//// An Example to Define and Systemize Turkish Nationalist Thought: ErgenekonDOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.9737/historys_743 Keywords: Turkey , Ergenekon , Reha O uz Türkkan , fascism , communism , racism , nationalism Abstract: This article examines a short-lived nationalist journal, Ergenekon, and the causes of its premature termination. First published in 1938 at the zenith of European fascism, Ergenekon aimed to combine Turkish nationalism with racism. Despite its warm approach to racism, the journal directed harsh criticisms toward fascism. This article argues that the anti-fascist articles in the journal were the primary cause of its closure by the government after only 4 issues. The journal mostly published the articles of Reha O uz Türkkan along with translated works and the articles of other nationalist writers such as Ziya G kalp. Because Ergenekon started its publication after the Turkish Hearths Association and its publication arm Türk Yurdu were closed down in 1931, it aimed to make its racist nationalism understanding the dominant nationalism in Turkey. According to the journal, racism would save Turkish people from the downfall they were currently in, and it was the only way to stand up to imperialism.
