EFFECT OF THE RISK FACTORS UPON THE INSULIN-INDEPENDENT DIABETES

A retrospective analysis of the Counseling Office for Diabetes of the HealthCenter, Bela Palanka, has been made in order to determine age and gender structureof the patients suffering from diabetes as well as the risk factors causing the disease.The series involves 134 patients for the period from 1995 to 1999. There were 42 menand 92 women. The greatest number of the sick is over 50 years of age. The riskfactors are numerous (patients' old age, "sitting" professions, physical activity, obesity,inadequate nutrition, inheritance, pancreas' disease, chronic use of alcohol). Theimportance of primary prevention as well as of potential patients' education isstressed.
