This article examines the correspondence of Thomas Roe, the British ambassador to Istanbul from 1621 to 1628. The correspondence of Roe gives a detailed account of sultans Osman II (1618-22) and Murad IV (1623-40) as well as the domestic and foreign developments of the period from the perspective of a British aristocrat.
