This article covers the ideas of dissident of Turkish author Refik Halit Karay and his political activism in the early 20th century. In his works prominent political satirist Karay pointed to the social and cultural problems of the declining Ottoman Empire but he was far from offering viable solutions. Because Karay took a side against Mustafa Kemal’s national independence war, he left Turkey for his own safety after Mustafa Kemal won the independence war.
