Vize Sanca Dirlikleri (1530-1568)/// Fiefs in the Sandjak of Vize (1530-1568)DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.9737/historys_764 Keywords: Vize , Fief , Ottoman Empire Abstract: This paper summarizes the history of Vize from the ancient times to the Ottoman Empire, and systematically examines the fiefs in Vize within the bounds of possibility provided by the tax registers of 1530 and 1568. Furthermore, the tables in this paper detail those who benefited from these fiefs, the types and amounts of fief incomes, and the names of the villages that were at the disposal of the beneficier of the fiefs. This study shows that because of its close proximity to Istanbul that made it easier for the upper level Ottoman bureaucrats to control their revenues, the revenues of sultan, and upper level Ottoman bureaucrats made up a large portion of revenue in Vize.
